coaching

Coaching is a here to there proposition. While the destination differs from person to person, the direction remains the same – from where you are to where you want to be. My clients include:

executive coaching-clients (individuals leading organizations)

leadership coaching-clients (mid-level and emerging organizational leaders)

personal coaching-clients (individuals exploring questions of vocation, direction, and personal development)

  • my coaching approach

My coaching approach provides an intentional, constructive, and individualized framework for you to focus on personal growth and success – however you define success.

Coaching is always a process of moving from and toward.

    Your direction may be moving:

    • from your current job to a new opportunity
    • from your current level of proficiency to a higher level of proficiency as a supervisor, a team lead, or an executive
    • from your current comfort (or discomfort) as a communicator to a greater comfort and confidence as a communicator
    • from a kinda-sorta sense of self awareness to a deeper sense of self knowledge
    • from a lack of clarity about what comes next to a clearer sense of the way-forward

    Coaching is always your progress.

  • our work together

People generally do the best they can with the resources they have.

Resources include tools, skills, and knowledge.

They also include beliefs, vision, support, and validation.

With better resources we do better.

    To this end, we will:

    • think deeply about  current realities – your "here"
    • explore courageously desired realities – your "there"
    • identify and articulate what lies between your "here" and "there"
    • craft realistic plans for traveling from "here" to "there"
    • execute your plans
    • celebrate your gains

    Coaching-participants describe our sessions:

    • as a space to engage a neutral, outside-their-circle thought-partner
    • as a competition-free zone to acknowledge and examine  challenges
    • as a growth-oriented environment
    • as an opportunity to reflect, investigate, explore, plan, prepare, and practice

They also report that the good work is hard work.

  • what coaching-participants say

My experiencing with Toby was amazing! It really saved me at a time when I was at a complete loss for what to do.

Although there were times when I was seeking the answer from him, he helped me realize that I have the answers I need. He helped me find stability within myself so that I was able to begin to achieve some stability in my organization.

He was a cheerleader for me when I needed that and someone who challenged and pushed me to look at the hard stuff when I needed that.

He was thoughtful about what I needed and responsive to what was coming up for me throughout the time we were meeting.

I was in awe of and abundantly grateful for Toby’s ability to relatively quickly help me move from a place of doubt, overload, and scattered thoughts to one of hope, focus, and manageable steps.  He listened deeply and intently, asked clarifying and thought-provoking questions, and acknowledged and celebrated progress.

Aided by his honed communication skills and sharp emotional intelligence, Toby created a safe space where he invited, welcomed, and encouraged honesty and vulnerability.  As a first-time coaching participant, I never would have anticipated how much I would come to value and treasure this skill-building, confidence-boosting, clarity-seeking journey with Toby, a committed and inspiring thought-partner and coach.

As a result of my participation in the coaching program, I produced and executed a carefully crafted plan that identified and filled departmental gaps.  I honed my leadership skills, improved my well-being, and most powerful to me, I re-gained confidence in my ability to act, think, and respond as a manager and department leader.
